WEAR & CARE
Every jewel holds a story — and with mindful care, its brilliance endures for generations. This page offers considered guidance for the preservation of your CAL CALCUTTA pieces: from the particular care each gemstone deserves to the quiet rituals that help maintain their clarity and lustre. A reference to ensure your jewellery remains as radiant as the day it was imagined.
JEWELRY CARE GUIDE
1 . The jewelry should be stored in a dry place away from humidity, moisture and extreme temperatures.
2 . Rings and bracelets should be worn sparingly to avoid damage through impact.
3 . Rings should be removed when washing up or showering, as soap particles may become lodged in stone settings and crevices. Soaps can also leave a film over metal and stones, creating a dull appearance.
4 . Store the jewelry in its own box or pouch to prevent scratching, chipping and entanglement.
5 . Gentle rubbing with a silver cleaning cloth will restore the original brilliance of the surface.
6 . Do not use liquid cleaners for carved silver jewelry as the liquid may dry into the engraving.
7 . Incase one wears a gold plated silver jewelry for a significant period of time, the plating may eventually wear down. To restore its appearance, one can have it re-plated.
8 . Make sure the jewelry is not in regular contact with hard surfaces, as it may scratch or wear down the plating or enamelling.
9 . Never use detergent, soap, toothpaste etc to clean gold plated jewelry.
10 . Exposure to makeup, oils and dyes may diminish the sparkle of the jewelry.
11 . Take off the jewelry before daily rituals such as: showering, applying lotion and perfume, using skincare, cleaning, gardening, cooking, sleeping, etc.
12 . Fine jewelry should be removed before diving into a chlorinated swimming pool or before using household cleaners. Many of these cleaners contain ammonia, which can be too harsh for delicate gems.
13 . Leave the jewelry at home before engaging in strenuous or high-impact activities like outdoor sports or working out. A good reminder is “if it's rough on your body, it's rough on your jewelry.”
14 . All stone jewelry requires extra care and consideration during wearing to protect the setting as well as to safeguard the diamond or gemstone it holds.

RUBY CARE GUIDE
STABILITY
Resistant to the effects of heat, light, and common chemicals.
Fracture-filled, cavity-filled, and dyed stones can get damaged by even mild acids like lemon juice.CLEANING
Warm soapy water is always safe.
Ultrasonic and steam cleaners are usually safe for untreated, heat-treated, and lattice diffusion treated stones.
Fracture-filled, cavity-filled, or dyed material should only be cleaned with a damp cloth.NOTE : Star Ruby is not suitable for ultra sonic or steamer.

EMERALD CARE GUIDE
STABILITY
Heat can damage emeralds, especially by extending existing fractures.
Light and chemicals causes oils, resins, and polymers used to fill surface-reaching fractures to alter in appearance or deteriorate.CLEANING
Since the great majority of natural emeralds contain filled fractures, it is risky to clean them ultrasonically or with steam.
Hot steam can cause oil or unhardened resin to sweat out of fractures.
Using warm, soapy water coupled with gentle scrubbing is the safest way to clean emeralds. -
DIAMOND CARE GUIDE
STABILITY
Diamonds are very stable. They are invulnerable to virtually all acids, for one thing.
Extreme temperature changes can cause thermal shock and create new fractures and cleavages or cause existing ones to spread.CLEANING
Warm soapy water is always safe.
Diamonds can be cleaned safely with lint-free cloths, commercial jewelry cleaning solutions, and household detergents.Harsher cleaning methods are not recommended for home use.
These include powdered abrasive household cleansers, ultrasonic
cleaners, and steam cleaners. -
ORGANIC GEMSTONE CARE GUIDE - PEARL
STABILITY
Pearl is generally stable to light. Although, heat from intense light can cause dehydration leading to internal cracks.
Pearls can get damaged by many chemicals and all acids. The list includes hair spray, perfume, cosmetics, and even perspiration.CLEANING
Pearls should never be cleaned in an ultrasonic or steam cleaner. It is safe to use warm, soapy water for occasional, thorough cleaning.
If the pearls are strung, make sure the string is completely dry before wearing. For routine care, it is best to wipe cultured pearls with a very soft, clean cloth after each wearing.
NOTE : Care for Mother of Pearl or Shell is the same as above.

ORGANIC GEMSTONE CARE GUIDE - CORAL
STABILITY
Coral is comparatively a soft gem material thus, one should keep it in its own cloth pouch so that harder gemstones do not scratch it.
As coral is a porous gemstone, one must avoid wearing it in chlorinated pools or exposure to heat or chemicals (including cosmetics) as this can cause it to lose its polish and color.CLEANING
Do not use an ultrasonic cleaner or steam cleaner. Instead, clean coral with a soft cloth and briefly rinse (do not soak) in warm, soapy water.
